Mechanical Devices for Medical Applications

Konad, Inc. has capabilities of design/development and delivery of finished product. Below list gives the examples of experience and type of projects done by Roman Siczek, who owns and manages the company.

GE Medical Systems
  • Redesigned an X-ray LC unit to accommodate the larger size of II (Image Intensifier) and X-ray tube, as well as a number of other improvements related to operation and life of subassemblies. I delivered a set of drawings, necessary calculations and parts, which I assembled into the final operating unit. In addition to the above, I performed a number of tests to support theoretical data, like life tests on II slide and transmission elements, overload test (UL requirements) on C-Arc, life tests on unidirectional clutch and C-Arc brake to evaluate wear and frequency of future adjustments. All these tests required special fixtures, which I designed and delivered.
  • II Sensor (for the protection of the patient on the X-ray table) was another small product for the same X-ray system. I delivered design, prototype and also a first small production run. Of course, all hardware I manufactured was in cooperation with outside vendors (machine shops).
  • Receptor Interchange - device (for X-ray system) which allows for switching between image intensifier and solid state X-ray beam receptor. Hospital tests conducted to compare quality of X-ray pictures from different sources required above device.
Eureka X-Ray Tube Corporation
Design work for R&D related to X-ray tube housing, collimator, rotary anode and miscellaneous work for production department.

Continental X- Ray Corporation
Designed overhead telescoping crane - the device mounted on ceiling rails to support and position the X-ray tube. I delivered full documentation and supervised assembly of the prototype in the plant.

Picker International Inc.
Designed and delivered X-ray film changer positioning device- which is part of the x-ray system and allows for switching from image intensifier to film changer. I delivered a set of drawings and a ready working prototype.

Difco Laboratories

Miscellaneous work related to laboratories test devices.

Cymatics, Inc.
Orbital Shaker apparatus with cycling motion tray used to agitate bacteria during laboratories test of clinical assays. Device was ordered and manufactured for Abbott Labs. I have received US patent for above instrument.

Northwestern University
Positioning device for the probe in ultrasound blood flow measurement. Delivered finished device.

Fischer Imaging Corporation
  • Designed and delivers since 1993 ceiling positioners
  • SID-device for measurement of distance between source (x-ray tube) and image (attachment for collimator)
  • Joystick Switch (7 functions) for control of vascular-cardiac table and collimator
